The short answer
For Plaça de Catalunya, take the Aerobús if you want a simple public option. From Terminal 2 to Sants or Passeig de Gràcia, consider the R2 Nord train. For your hotel door with luggage or children, compare an official taxi with a private transfer quote.
01 Aerobús A1 / A2
A1 serves T1 and A2 serves T2. Runs day and night; no transfer is needed to reach its central stops. You may still need to walk or change transport to your hotel.
02 R2 Nord train
The station is at T2. From T1, first take the free inter-terminal shuttle. Trains are less frequent than the Aerobús; check the timetable before relying on a tight connection.
03 Metro L9 Sud
Stops at both terminals, but L9 Sud does not go directly to Plaça de Catalunya. Change lines for most central addresses. An ordinary single ticket or T-casual is not valid at airport metro stations.
04 Official taxi
Follow the official taxi signs outside arrivals. Barcelona's licensed taxis are black and yellow. The final price varies with traffic, time and destination; check the official tariff for current supplements.
05 Private transfer
Arrange your pickup in advance and confirm the meeting point and vehicle size with the provider. Compare the whole-vehicle price with the per-person cost of public transport, especially for a group.
T1 or T2 makes a difference
Check your arrival terminal on your ticket. Aerobús has a separate line for each terminal (A1 for T1, A2 for T2). The R2 Nord rail station is at T2 only; a free shuttle connects T1 and T2. The metro serves both terminals. If someone is collecting you, agree on the exact terminal and meeting point beforehand.
Before you buy a ticket
Airport transport fares and schedules change. Aerobús has its own ticket, separate from ordinary integrated transit tickets. The airport metro needs an Airport Ticket or a valid pass that includes airport access; a T-casual is not valid at the airport metro stations. What would we choose?
Solo traveller headed near Plaça de Catalunya: Aerobús. Staying near Sants and arriving at T2: train. Light luggage and an L9 Sud connection: metro. Several suitcases, children or an address far from a stop: taxi or a pre-booked transfer. A private transfer is not the cheapest choice for one person; it earns its place when door-to-door convenience matters.
